Kings And Queens Of England
Edward V
Edward V (1470-1483), succeeded his father, Edward IV, as king of England
in April 1483 at the age of 12. But before he was crowned, his father's
brother, Richard, Duke of Gloucester, imprisoned Edward and Edward's
younger brother, also named Richard, in the Tower of London. In June,
Gloucester took the throne as Richard III. Edward and his brother were
last seen playing in the Tower's garden in August 1483. They were probably
murdered soon afterward on an order from Richard III. The remains of
two children were found in the Tower in 1674.
Edward was born at Westminster (now part of London). He lived most
of his short life in the borderlands between England and Wales.
